Though she'd always wanted to
be a professional writer, Dawn Atkins wasn't sure she had the stuff, so she
graduated from college with a teaching degree and taught elementary school and
then began freelance feature writing for newspapers and magazines, local and
national. She left teaching to work in public relations, skills she uses today
in her job as a writer/editor for the Arizona Education Association.
Dawn's first romance credits
in the early 1980s were two stories in True Love magazine. Though she
endured rejections as she honed her craft, in 1998 she sold the first of two
short romantic comedies to Kensington Publishing--Getting Zack Back,
published in December. In July 2000, Baby Makes Three was released.
After coming in second among published authors in a Harlequin Duets contest,
Dawn sold to Harlequin in 2001, quickly selling another comedy. In addition to
Duets, she writes for Temptation, Blaze and Flipside. Most of Dawn's
hobbies--sailing, scuba-diving, playing the piano (badly)--have gone by the
wayside as she devotes all her non-family spare time to writing. Dawn lives in
the Phoenix area with her husband and 13-year-old son
